Announcements

Announcements are short news items for the gallery's scrolling ticker (“This week”) and its big banner on the welcome page. Birthdays and anniversaries can be announced automatically. Open Announcements in the admin's top bar.

Write an announcement #

  1. Press New announcement, or Birth of a child for a ready-made baby announcement.
  2. Choose what kind of news it is: birth of a child, milestone, birthday, anniversary, furlough, praise report, prayer request, event or general news.
  3. Pick a missionary, or leave it empty for church-wide news.
  4. Write a short Headline. This is what scrolls across the ticker. Add a few more words, a picture or a link if you like.
  5. Choose when it starts and, if you like, when it stops.
  6. Choose where it shows: the Ticker, the Big banner, or Both.
  7. Press Save announcement.
  • The birth template's headline is “Welcome, baby ___!”. Replace the ___ with the baby's name before you save. It stops showing after 14 days unless you change the date.
  • An announcement about a missionary shows only while that missionary is Public.
  • Turn off Published to keep it as a draft.
  • The list groups announcements into Showing now, Scheduled and Expired. Edit an expired one to show it again.

Birthdays and anniversaries #

Birthdays and dates are added in each missionary's step 2, Family & dates. For each family member:

  • Show name on kiosk lists them on the kiosk.
  • Show birthday (month & day) shows the birthday on the kiosk. The year is never shown.
  • Announce birthday adds it to the ticker and banner in the week it happens.
  • Turning on either birthday switch also shows the name, so visitors know whose birthday it is.

For each important date, such as a wedding anniversary or arrival on the field:

  • Every year repeats it each year.
  • Show on kiosk lists it on the kiosk.
  • Announce adds it to the ticker and banner in the week it happens.

Good to know #

  • The year is optional for birthdays and dates.
  • Only Public missionaries' birthdays and dates are announced. Limited missionaries' dates are never announced.
  • The Announcements page lists what is announced automatically in the next 7 days. To stop one, switch off Announce in that missionary's step 2.
  • The Missionaries page lists all birthdays and dates in the next 30 days.
