Self-hosting
A self-hosted gallery runs on your church's own accounts: a Supabase project for the data, a website host of your choice, and your own AI and voice services. The desktop app for Mac and Windows sets it all up. Self-hosting is by approval, with a signed license.

Is it right for you? #
- You pay your own providers instead of Missionary Lane: Supabase, your web host, and your AI and voice services. Every venue add-on and giving are included.
- Someone looks after it. A volunteer installs updates from the desktop app and keeps the accounts paid and active.
- The code is the same. The gallery, the admin and their features work the same way. There's no Billing page and no credits; AI and voice always use your own keys.
- If you'd rather not run anything, the hosted version starts with a 30-day free trial.
Request access #
- Open app.missionarylane.org/#/self-host and sign in, or create an account and confirm your email. Two-step sign-in isn't needed for this page.
- Fill in your name, your role at the church, the church name, city and state, website, congregation size, and why you want to self-host.
- Read the Self-Hosting License. Its version and a fingerprint (SHA-256) of the text are shown under it.
- Tick the box to agree on behalf of your church, and type your full name exactly as you entered it above to sign.
- Press Sign and send request.
Your signature is recorded with the typed name, the time, your IP address and browser, and the fingerprint of the license text you agreed to. A line under the license notes that your use of our hosted license check, downloads and updates is also subject to our Terms of Service.
The Self-Hosting License #
The license covers using Missionary Lane for your own congregation. It's shown in full, with its version, before you sign, and the copy you agree to is the one that applies. The software and downloads are available only to approved churches; they aren't published publicly.
While it's reviewed #
- Every request is read personally, usually within a few days.
- You get an email when there's a decision.
- You can withdraw the request from the same page and send a new one later. If a request isn't approved, you're welcome to send a new one.
Once you're approved #
- The self-hosting page shows your license key, which looks like
MLSH-ABCDE-FGHJK-LMNPQ-RSTUV. Keep it private; it's tied to your church's license. - It also has Download for Mac and Download for Windows. For your security the links stop working after an hour; press Get fresh links for new ones.
- The same page offers the WordPress plugin and its own copies of the setup guides.
- Then follow The desktop app.
If the license is revoked #
The desktop app stops setting up and updating galleries. Galleries you already published keep running, and the app can still open them and their admin. If you think it's a mistake, reply to the email you were sent about it.
What runs where #
| Part | Where it runs |
|---|---|
| Database, sign-in, file storage and server functions | Your church's Supabase project |
| Gallery and admin pages | Your choice of host: Netlify, Vercel, Cloudflare Pages, GitHub Pages, FTP, SFTP, S3-compatible storage, or a .zip you upload yourself |
| AI and voice | Your own accounts, with keys stored in your Supabase project's Vault |
| Place search in the admin | Google Maps (Geocoding and Time Zone APIs), with your own server key set as the GOOGLE_MAPS_SERVER_KEY secret in your Supabase project. Without it, staff type the place and map position by hand. |
| Setup and updates | The desktop app on your computer, which checks your license |
